This is a CQI Q Processing Professional certificate course.

Description: Q Processing Professional is a field-based course where learners deepen their theoretical knowledge of the main processing methods, learn best practices, and gain hands-on experience with a quality control system for post-harvest processing. With this content, students will start to develop the skill sets necessary to achieve different flavor profiles through processing. It involves lectures, team activities, applied lessons, and cuppings. It is a hands-on and collaborative learning experience fit for the practical needs of the producing side of the industry. To earn certifications, attendees must pass both theoretical and practical tests.

Who is it for? Individuals working regularly with post-harvest processing.

  • Duration: 6 days of hands-on learning

  • Location: This course is hosted at Monarch Coffee Farm in the heart of the Kona Coffee region on the Big Island of Hawaii.

  • Experience Level: Individuals working regularly with post-harvest processing. Any coffee professional (namely roasters, green buyers) who are willing to learn about the main processing methods and how they impact coffee flavor and chemistry.

  • This course is for all passionate coffee professionals interested in a collaborative and immersive learning experience at origin. Individuals working regularly with post-harvest processing.

    Prerequisites*: QP1 is a prerequisite for all students who do not work on coffee processing at a farm annually.

    *exceptions can be made by the instructor for any coffee professional (namely roasters, retailers, baristas, green buyers) with experience. To inquire send us an email.

  • Attendees can expect to experience how post-harvest processing influences flavor profiles, enhances quality, and ultimately improves the value of coffee

  • Our instructor for the 2024 course will be Time Heinze. Tim is a Coffee Professional who has been working across the entire coffee supply chain since 2009, where he worked extensively with coffee producers in Southern China. He has been pursuing the cultivation and production of specialty coffee as well as the development of a farmer-focused, regenerative coffee supply chain. In 2021, Tim received a Master’s in Agricultural development from Texas A&M University. He holds Coffee Quality Institute Processing Generalist (Level 1), Professional (Level 2), and Expert (Level 3) certificates. He is also an instructor for all the levels of the post-harvest processing program and an instructor at the quality evaluation program for the Q Arabica grader license. Tim currently serves as the Coffee Education Manager for Sucafina. In his spare time, he can be found coaching or watching one of his 3 boys play baseball.

  • At Monarch Coffee, we understand that plans can change. While our course instructor fees are nonrefundable, we offer flexibility in the form of credits and transfers.

    Credit Policy:

    If you need to cancel your participation, you can apply the full course fee as a credit towards a future course. Credits must be used within 1 year of the originally scheduled course dates.

    Transfer Policy:

    You may transfer your registration to another person without penalty, provided you inform us at least 14 days prior to the start of the course.

    Change Fee:

    Any changes to course dates or attendees must be made at least 30 days before the start of the course and are subject to a 15% change fee. Changes are not possible less than 30days before the course begins.
