Our Story
Aloha! We are Greg and Susy Stille, the founders of Monarch Coffee. We spent 32 years falling in love with the Hawaiian Islands before we began the great adventure that led us to the Big Island, the home of Kona coffee.
We started out with very few trees on a modest, two-acre farm on Maui—picking the coffee cherries, hand pulping, milling, drying, and test roasting in small batches. Through those early experiences we started to learn all about coffee and what goes into making the perfect cup.
Our knowledge quickly expanded and so did we! We got the hang of the coffee-making process and grew into a larger farm in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, which we now know as Monarch Coffee.

Our Family
Monarch Coffee is an ‘Ohana (family) operation, it’s all hands on deck here! We run the farm with help from Abby and Sal, our daughter and son-in-law, and a skillful team. From hand-picking and roasting coffee to implementing sustainable farming practices, you’ll find that the majority of farm work is done by members of our family.
We love the rich heritage of coffee growing and processing here in the Islands—the production of Kona coffee is an art form, part of a 200-year-old tradition in this region, and we appreciate being involved in the process at every step, from seed to cup.
Award Winning Gesha Coffee
The Hawaii Coffee Association Annual Coffee Conference was held in Kauai in 2018, where we were recognized for our outstanding Monarch Coffee Farm Estate Gesha Coffee. Over 100 coffee farms from all over the Hawaiian Islands submitted their coffee for consideration in The Cupping Competition, where coffee is graded and cupped by industry professionals. 2018 was the first year that we participated by entering our Kona Coffee and we were delighted to win the Grand Champion First Place with our washed Gesha washed and 3rd place for our Gesha Pulp Natural at the State of Hawaii Cupping Competition. What a huge moment for Monarch Coffee and our hardworking, coffee-loving family!
