Experience the magic of coffee from seed to cup at Monarch Coffee Camp. Nestled in the historic Kona coffee belt, this is a unique four-day retreat where you can immerse yourself in the world of coffee farming and processing.
Nestled on the historical Kona coffee belt with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, this adventure brings to life our commitment to excellence, as we experience the journey of coffee throughout the entire coffee supply chain, from planting, harvesting, processing, and roasting. We will also dive into the rich heritage of growing Hawaiian coffee while visiting the Kona Coffee Living History Farm, explore coffee-inspired recipes and craft cocktails, and use your supertaster skills as we cup coffee while learning about life on a coffee farm. There will be plenty of opportunities to catch many of Kona’s famous sunsets and enjoy some unique-tasting coffees. This 4-day retreat welcomes coffee professionals and enthusiasts alike.

Coffee Harvest.
Wake up to the beautiful sunrise peeking over the volcano to a fresh cup of coffee and be ready to strap on a picking basket and join our farm manager in picking ripe coffee cherry fruit from our Gesha and Pacamara coffee trees. You will learn about fruit density, sugar content, various stages of ripening, and how it all affects the quality of the final cup.
Coffee Processing.
Each stage of producing specialty coffee takes utmost care and attention to detail. After the coffee fruit is picked, this stage is called pre/post-harvest production. This the when the producer decides the best way to process his harvest. Washed. Semi-Washed or natural. Plan to get a little wet during this phase as you experience the coffee processing stage with our on-site pre/post-harvesting lead and CQI-certified Qprocessor.
Cupping Coffee.
Cupping coffee is the practice of evaluating coffees for fragrance aroma flavor acidity body mouthfeel. This is done by emersion brewing in a soup-style bowl and tasting with a spoon. Throughout your adventure, you will have the opportunity to cup a plethora of coffees using your supertaster skills. Guided by our two CQI Qgraders, coffee enthusiasts’ will get a chance to overload their sensories while of all you coffee professionals, you’ll thoroughly enjoy the complexities of these coffees.

Day 0: Welcome
Arrive in Kona
Slip into the rhythm of life on a coffee farm. We will discuss Ancient Hawaiians and the building of their rock walls, explore ancient burial sites and hike the trails behind the farm.

Coffee talk “History of Coffee in Hawaii” -Kona Coffee Historical Society
Day 1: Coffee Harvesting
After an early breakfast, you’ll strap on a picking basket for a hands-on experience led by our farm manager.
Learn basic coffee plant and soil health and its effects on specialty coffee.
We'll eat a prepared lunch on the farm.
Experience coffee cherry fruit sorting and processing methods at our onsite mill
After the end of the day, we’ll take a short scenic drive to Holualoa village, a charming historic village in the heart of Kona Coffee Country for the First Friday Artwalk.
Day 2: Coffee Processing
We’ll reconnect early once again for breakfast prepared on the farm.
Experience post-harvest processing at our onsite mill.
Lunch on the farm
Transform parchment to green coffee in our onsite mill while learning Hawaii coffee grading standards and what it means to be 100% Kona, what makes it special, and why it is important.
Let us share a few craft cocktails and signature beverages before dinner on the farm
Later, enjoy a coffee talk story and campfire under the stars
Day 3: Roasting, Brewing, and Cupping
After an early breakfast, we will head to the roastery for a full day of sensory experiences.
The Cupping workshop will kick off the day. Discover the practice of evaluating Monarch Estate coffees.
Working with one of our certified roasters, you will learn how we modulate flavor profiles and customize a unique profile for you to roast and take home with you.
Refuel with lunch on the farm followed by a “better brewing at home” workshop
Special Farewell dinner local kine eats.
Day 4: A hui hou! Until we meet again
After a light breakfast, we will undertake a coffee tree or native milkweed planting project in the nursery before we say our farewells.
We will wrap up our time together around 10am.
