A Must Try

Happy Hump day friends! Hope your week is treating you well. It is so hard to come back to work, after a great Easter weekend, when you have all the spring break feels.

Monarch Coffee Farm family from the big island of hawaii celebrating with the greenwell family

We had a wonderful Easter Sunday, here in Hawaii, with friends egg hunting, talking story, and indulging in delicious eats; up Mauka (mountains). Even tho none of us have Keiki anymore-everyone had fun hunting for candy-filled eggs. A few of us even struck gold, finding a little cash stashed in the hidden eggs. With our little family now spread between California Hawaii and Oregon, it would have been a pretty lonely afternoon so the company was nice. AND I didn’t have to host!

Our friends grilled some lamb kebabs and served a baked ham. Of course, we had all the other picnic-type goodies…deviled eggs, potato salad, broccoli salad, sweet potatoes, haupia brownies, lilikoi cheesecake, and banana cream pie. OH and PARKER HOUSE ROLLS!!!

Have you ever had them? They are so amazing and the most requested recipe item from my recipe box. I’ll let you in on a little secret…they are delicious the next day, slightly toasted in the oven, alongside your morning coffee. I know. I know. Coffee talk. Why are you surprised? After all, we are farmers.

I have no idea how it came to be that I started baking them…as I wasn’t really a baker. But when IG food blogger, Tieghan Gerard from Half Baked Harvest entered my life…I started making all the HBH things. The first dish was a Hawaiian Shrimp Truck inspired dish served with coconut rice and we were hooked. Anyway back to the rolls.

A few years ago around Thanksgiving, she shared a recipe for Salted Honey Butter Parker House Rolls. They were soft, sweet, and buttery. I had to give them a try. They were a hit. We felt like they kicked up the WOW factor in our holiday meal and are now a staple for “special occasion” requests…just like cinnamon rolls are for birthdays in our house.

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, Susy asked that I shared the recipe with you all. It is such a gift to be able to make things with our hands that creates community and gives us something to share with others.

Let us know if you give them a try…and be sure to save yourself one with a little extra honey butter to go with your coffee for the next morning.

A hui hou- until we meet again!

Abby
